Keeping Your Invisalign Trays Clean

TeamInvisalign

One of the benefits of choosing Invisalign aligners, or trays, is the ease and convenience of use. Patients wear the trays all day and night, taking them out only for cleaning and eating. However, this approach is only possible when paired with proper care and maintenance of your Invisalign system – and keeping your trays clean is a critical component in the success of your treatment.

At Castle Hills 3D Orthodontics, we offer state-of-the-art orthodontic services at our office in Lewisville, TX. We provide a unique patient experience with excellent customer service in a relaxing environment. Learn from Castle Hills 3D Orthodontics how to keep your Invisalign trays and retainers clean.

A Clean Mouth Is a Healthy Mouth

Maintaining excellent oral hygiene is important, especially when you consider that your oral health has a direct impact on your overall health, but this becomes even more important when you are wearing braces or clear aligners like Invisalign or Spark aligners.

When you eat, food particles can get stuck in between your teeth and build-up can occur. Just as when you are not undergoing orthodontic treatment, proper brushing, flossing and mouthwash practices are imperative to prevent decay; however, when wearing braces or aligners, bacteria and decay can speed up without proper care because of the way particles can remain trapped against the teeth and gums.

The good news for those who chose Invisalign is that, unlike with traditional braces, there’s no need to spend time in front of the mirror brushing, flossing and picking away at all the build-up that can collect around the wires, brackets and tiny crevices. With Invisalign, simply remove the trays and brush, floss and mouthwash just as you did before you had them.

Keeping Invisalign Trays Clean

Wearing Invisalign is easy and convenient, but it does require forming some new habits to keep your mouth healthy and clean. With most new habits, it can take some time to adjust, but once you get into the routine, it will be a regular part of your day that is a breeze to follow.

Here are the steps to ensure your Invisalign trays stay clean and fresh:

  • Remove while eating or drinking anything other than water. You will be wearing your Invisalign trays for approximately 22 hours each day, but it’s important to remove them whenever you eat or have anything to drink aside from water.
  • Brush, floss and use mouthwash in the morning and before bedtime. Brushing your teeth three times a day is always recommended, and the same is true when you are using Invisalign or spark aligners. You’ll also want to rinse and gently brush your aligners during your morning and bedtime routines. Going to bed with a clean mouth ensures that no food particles remain and any residue is washed away before you put your trays in for the night.
  • Soak when needed. There is a special disinfectant solution that’s formulated just for Invisalign oe spark aligners so it does not damage the material the trays are made from. If you feel your trays could use a deeper clean, this is a safe, helpful way to get them freshened up and remaining as clear as possible.
